Here it is - www.madmusic.com/playlist.aspx?Show=MMS-218

Show complete. Now maybe I can get on with the whole 'site Xmas prep' thing.

It's all about priorities. Have you noticed these page problems are being generated (for the most part) by a single source? I don't think it's too much to ask that a minimum of show research be done before pages are added so they don't need fixing later. Knowing the right info about your songs and artists makes your show better.

As for me, my priorities are in order.

1. First, finish show 218 - something I should have done last year.

2. Switch the radio stream to Xmas music this weekend & prepare a new homepage article for the upcoming holidays.

3. Set the framework for the 4 Xmas shows, starting with MMS-223. Remember that? It's Xmas IV from last year that I ran out of time to make. I'll fix it the way I fixed MMS-157 and MMS-218 this month. It'll be yet another "new show from the past".

When January comes, I'll change the release dates on these shows and they'll vanish from the top of the main show list into their proper time spots in the archive in much the way MMH-159 did. People don't care when the shows were made; only that they can hear unique holiday shows.

4. In case you missed it, all the FuMP albums credit Schoolhouse Rock as artist. Wayne fixed what he could, but Schoolhouse Rock is still the artist for many "various artist" albums/songs. I'm thinking that's more important than what YouTubers actual artist names are.

When the other things are done, I'll fix what's blatantly wrong with the song & artist pages (with Wayne's help, if I can actually get his attention) first and work my way down from there- in order of importance. How do I know what's important? 11 years of actually doing it, that's how.

If Dave wants to deal with the minutia of what internet artists call themselves, he can, though I'd be grateful and content if he made just one Xmas episode or maybe some Xmas banners, but he can do what he damn well pleases. It's still a relatively free country...for now.

Now I'm going back to finishing the script for the final segment of MMS-218 so I can record the segment, be done with it this week and then get on with the other things described above.

e8:

Oh, okay. By the way you might want to look at the song forums, seeing there are songs that need to be fixed.

Nope. Friday at the latest, if not late tonight. Uncle is watching the Red Sox parade right now and nothing is shifting him. The rest of us don't comprehend the appeal of sports (walking blood banks hitting, throwing or kicking balls around?! We don't get it), but Uncle's a fan.

The difference between last year & this one is that there's only one segment to record instead of three and its playlist is done.

He also has to start soon if he wants the Xmas shows done on time - unless Wayne and/or Dave makes one, so it's in the old man's interest to finish MMS-218 this week. The radio stream will change this weekend.

I guess the final segment will have to wait until next year, huh Stavro. [FTFY]

Here's segment 3. One to go... - www.madmusic.com/playlist.aspx?Show=MMS-218

And yes, the date is correct. I took the easy way out and made the final Halloween show of this year a completion of the final show of last year. I only felt well enough to make a single half hour for last year's final show, so I'm filling it out to the usual 2 hours this year.

Ok, for anyone left who's determined to hear this "new" show, let it be known that a few songs will be repeated from MMS-157...because it's not meant to be from 2012. It's meant to complete a show from last year. But unlike show 157, I won't mention the time factor in the show. Not often, anyway.

The script for segments 2 & 3 are done. And they're both strangely off the wall...and inexplicably clean (for me, anyway). Well, except for that part where the Devil shoves the steel pole up - oh, just listen to it when it's done.

I'll try to get a segment recorded later tonight. Maybe...possibly.

Viscount Vyslo Arrgula   Offline  -  Member  -  10-27-18 06:09 PM  -  23 days ago

Updated update: Now that the details are sorted, maybe some recording can be done, yes? I think I'm staying out of this episode. After everything that's happened to him in the last month, young Stavro is likely in need of a root canal. That won't affect the recording of this show, however. It's a back tooth, he says.

Why he can't just become a vampire like the rest of us and avoid all the aggravation of the living, I'll never know. Consul Pious says the Arrgolus line can't become vampires. Except for himself, of course.

Annnnyway, this show is scheduled for posting sometime during Halloween week. It's mostly classics & favorites with very little that's new. Despite the show's title, this is looking more and more like the most laid back Halloween show in a while. My son, Tyro, hosted the first segment and my sister Celestra will host the second. Nothing excites her, it seems. The Consul will host the third and young Stavro will finish out the show.

No brains will explode and no gall bladders will ooze green bile everywhere. Sounds like a dull affair; I'm staying home for this one. I wonder how Stavro will make a show supposedly from last year new - he'll think of something sneaky. I think I'll give it a listen & see if he pulls it off.

Alternate title: "Finish What You Start, You Lazy Old Bastard!"

Ok, realism time. I've been making (and delaying, then never making) these shows long enough to know that even though I have more than a week to do it, it's unlikely that I'll be able to make a new MMS from scratch.

But what if there was a short show that was already on the show list that I could finish? - There is.

I only managed to get one of the 4 segments of MMS-218 made last year. Its playlist is still complete & its mp3s collected. It says somewhere earlier in this thread that it might take until next Halloween to complete this show. Some things are far too accurate.

So you get ¾ of an entirely new Halloween show. Or a whole new one, if you never heard it the first time. And the question goes away as to whether I can finish a final holiday show by Halloween or not - I hope.

It's sort of becoming traditional to offer Dave the chance to make the Thanksgiving show if he wants. No reason to change things now...

After this, we'll see if we can get Santa locked up for his obsession with small children.

Update: Now that today's medical adventure has ended, I actually have time to make this show...right after I drag my ass to the market and buy food for the first time in 2 months. I stock up because I hate shopping. Tomorrow will be a good time to have a go at that.

Afterwards, in a few days, a "new" MMS will appear on the homepage list. It will have 2 segments, but only one of them will be new. As always, the segments will appear one by one until the show's complete. Hopefully, I can get it done before Halloween.

Xmas I: This year, I actually have time to pay attention to requests and not have to slap together Xmas shows because I'm pressed for time. However, the best way to request songs is still to hit the request button on its song page. There's a reason for this.

When I use the "do show research" admin function, any "one touch button" request gets automatically added to the info - which gets copied & pasted directly to the script. Your request gets on the show even if I didn't know you requested it. And I always forget these things. Or you could just go barking mad and call Wayne's request number. I have nothing to do with that. If he actually gets one, he'll tell me and I'll add it to the show.

And here it is - www.madmusic.com/playlist.aspx?Show=MMS-218

As stated, this show consists of one 35 minute segment and that's all that's likely to be made for now what with a PC to fix/replace/smash into itty bitty fragments (it's therapeutic).

Tyro hosted & it came out all right - except for one undeletable nasty crackle in the opening sequence....

Meanwhile, I've got Xmas shows to assemble. Episodes about Old Saint Nick porking everyone & everything with an orifice don't write themselves, you know.

Tyro Arrgula   Offline  -  Editor  -  11-05-17 07:21 PM  -  1 year ago

Bugger. I've got to do everything these days, it seems.

Uncle's going on & on about "hammer time" and something about a Xmas show featuring reindeer abuse.

Guess the rest of us have to make this one while this PC's still in one piece.

New Show Tonight ...very late. As in 4 am late. And granted, it'll just be a half hour, but it will serve as a placeholder for MMS-218 until the rest gets made. Who knows? It may take another year...if Uncle has one left.

No histrionics this time...well, not from me, anyway. It's still the final Halloween show of the year & Uncle doesn't screw around when making a final holiday episode, no matter how late it is. He plays your favorites & the classics for these episodes with a minimum of fuss.

You'll be able to hear it free whenever you want as long as this site exists.

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  10-31-17 11:38 PM  -  1 year ago

Fun Fact: The elimination of the edit page's 'greyed-out' box means that I or any other show maker can make shows retroactively at any time. Not only can I make this show whenever, but also MMS-157 or any of the Xmas shows I missed in the past.

After asking about it first, I was told that I can tack on shows to those I missed. A one episode Xmas year (like 2012) can be added to by simply calling a show MMS-160-A ...or whatever.

I'm actually going to try this...after sorting out the Xmas shows...and this PC. It's 5 years old and the trouble it's causing is bringing "hammer time" closer each day. For now, unless Wayne releases a show tonight, the next MMS will become 218 - or I can manage one segment of this show this week & tack onto it whenever. ...Yes, I'll do that. At least you can have one half-hour of this. 4 segments instead of 6 has its advantages.

Making Dave's podcast "Halloween II" is easy enough. I just add it to the "next week" portion of the 1st shows playlist - something I should have done before now - & add to the title of the other show page. The 4 versions of this show will remain interchangeable under the "Mad Music" title & a podcast can be "Halloween II" or "Xmas III" - if we need it to be.

I'll leave the Halloween stream up for the remainder of the week, but after that, we go back to the 'top 1000' - or directly to the Xmas stream (are you up for Xmas music yet?) - depending on what Wayne wants to change the banner to...& when. Unless he connected the functions the way he did with the main show banners as was the plan at the time. Then there'll be no problem.

Meanwhile, the Xmas playlist assemblies can begin. Expect a show about the usual bollocks - reindeer abuse, Santa's sexual misadventures, some old faves, & what the hell the obsession with death/depression during that 'magic season' is about. "Oh, it shall be such a naughty caprice!" and now I'm quoting Patton Oswalt. "Stop me before I quote again!"

I'll skip the BJ's and maybe I can make one show for Thanksgiving. Stavro can start on the Xmas shows as soon as he's able.

This show can become:

MMS #219 -  "Just Another Turkey Show That You Ought To Be Thankful For" with guest host Roger "Pith Helmet" Smythe.    I can start taking requests as soon as Stavro OK's the show.

---
e8:

I guess you better start working on the BJ's and thanksgiving shows.

---
Stavro Arrgolus:

So all things considered, you're thinking I can be forgiven for only managing one+ show as we have a wealth of new material? Hmm.. I still don't like the idea of not finishing what I start. But there are 4 Xmas shows to make soon....

After a system restore in safe mode, I managed by some miracle to unlock what was locked & unhide what files were hidden (it was backed up anyway)...but now all my media players crash when trying to play anything - even VLC...oh, wait. They were doing that before along with all the other crap.

Reasonably sure the sledgehammer's in the cellar and not the shed - and yes, I only have one shed. Don't need an new nickname and one could say I've already got my own arts program...that's a long way to go for a Monty Python reference... I'm solving this little dilemma one way or the other. Going to keep the DVD+RW drive, though. It's the only thing that still works in there after 5 years.

I hear Win10 is full of MS created spyware I have to deactivate before using a new PC. If I can't solve all this & need to use the hammer again, I guess I'll JFGI & find out for myself.

I am not terribly worried about one Halloween show not getting made this year.

A-Log gave us 3 shows

DT gave us 1 show

DJ Darren gave us 1 show

Wacky Ben gave us 2 shows possibly 3

I did 1 show

and Stavro did 1 and 1/4 shows by finishing last year's show

All together that's almost 10 new shows. (Over 14 hours of stuff).

How much Halloween music does one listener need?

If you need more than that - listen to Mad Music Radio!
Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  10-30-17 07:13 PM  -  1 year ago

Actually, I asked him about something similar once and got the answer that makes my last post make more sense. I asked 'why there couldn't be categories (on the show add/edit pages) for each "Mad Music" show type'. He said that the 3 non-podcasts were essentially the same show type and didn't warrant a separate "MMH" classification - not for the edit pages, anyway. Or words to that effect.

Well, it's his site, so I ran with the notion. That's why, during these holiday shows, you can mix & match show types and still call all of them "Halloween/Xmas I, II", or whatever. It's unrelated to the actual show numbers anyway.

The most recent example of this going on was...last Xmas when I finished the season with a 3-hour Mad Music Special. It still counted as "Xmas IV", even though it was classified as a "special" & not a "show". Logically, this should apply to the podcast as well.

Ok, full disclosure. This is also a bit of a sneaky site promotion technique. If you see our podcast on iTunes & it's labeled "Halloween II", there's an off-chance the listener might go looking for the website to find the other numbered shows if they liked what they heard. And voila! (a word I don't get to use often) We get new members through indirect means. Everybody wins.

Dave AuJus:

If Wayne doesn't post a show, then MMS-218 should be Halloween II and skip making Halloween III and move on to making the x-mas shows.

Just my opinion.

We have had others host the Mad Music Show on occasion, so the best thing to do is make up a demo of yourself hosting a show, send it to Wayne and see if he likes it. That's how PDX-DJ1 and I got started here.

We actually sent him a complete show and he used it when he was too busy to make a show himself.

There'll be no more holes in the numbering. If Wayne doesn't post a show before this one, this will become MMS-218. ...However, it's not like this wasn't anticipated.

Before I started these shows, I knew I couldn't manage 3 of them...actually, I could, but I'd have had to slap them together and do a half-assed job with bare-bones announcing. If you just want to hear the songs, listen to the 24/7 stream. That's what it's for...so Dave made a podcast between them. If Wayne became too busy to make a show (it's been like this since 2008 - I mentioned that in this thread already), then Dave's show would become Halloween II, whether we said so or not. There was no thread for that podcast, so...

There are 4 types of these shows - podcast, hour, show, special. Each has specialized banners we made for them. Wayne linked the banners on the show page to the ones on the homepage, so you'd always know what was there and who made it just by checking the homepage. It's quite convenient, actually...

Dave's show doesn't say "Halloween II" right now, but I can change that at any time should the need arise.

That would be up to Wayne. I'm sure he'd approve. Holiday shows draw in new active membership - even if only temporarily ("active" membership lasts for only 30 days without visiting the site again). So more holiday shows = better. And these people often return for holiday shows in years to come, so it's all good.

The plan for TMMS is the same as last year. I make shows 1 & 4, Wayne makes a show (I hope), maybe Dave will make one as well - I made a guest host banner for him & everything. I know it can be formulaic, but the "Demento" style mix we use for Xmas shows works, & if it works, don't fix it.

If you want to make a holiday show, I'm sure Wayne can arrange it. Making new show categories is exclusively a 'site owner' function though, so it's not something I can do.

Time for an update. The storm didn't flood my basement (yet), but it did knock out internet service all morning, so this show will be late no matter what.

The playlist was completed weeks ago & the mp3s are collected. All that remains is to choose the show's bgm (so many OSTs to choose from now - this will take a while). That & composing the script. Maybe it's just me, but I think a coherent script - even one that's insane, is better than trying to wing it.

And all that means one thing. You'll get the show one segment at a time until all four are posted. Even if it takes until April....It won't - this time. And then there's all those Xmas shows coming up. I've got some very sick ideas for their themes. You know how the holiday brings out the violence in everyone for some reason? I think I'll leave it at that & let you sort out the rest....

Things changed in 2008. A very different but also unelected maniac made life more difficult for those of you with real jobs. Suddenly, there was no time to make internet shows. The greed of others (especially C student election thieves) can force your priorities to change as we learned...again.

Combine that with family obligations and well, you need some kind of...editor for your website or something. Someone who's retired and has lots of free time. And if he knows his comedy music too, that'd be helpful. Even if said editor is a curmudgeonly bastard.

At any rate, making internet shows is right out. Most of the time anyway. All that leisure time you had vanished with circumstance.

As for me, I'm thinking all this rain is going to flood my basement again and it doesn't help that my PC exploded in crapware. Either changes I made OR the bastard Russian kid making a pitiful attempt to inject ransomware into my machine screwed things up. Half my C drive is locked or 'hidden' (but most is still accessible with the start menu?! - and it's all backed up on a 2 TB external drive anyway).

The point is, between these things, no 2nd (or 3rd) Halloween show is arriving on time until these things are sorted out. Unless Dave wants to make it. I can send him the completed playlist. If not, it'll still get made. I won't leave it like MMS-157 was left. It just may take considerably longer.

Even if I have to solve the problem the way I did last time - with a very large hammer (NEVER take crap from inanimate objects) & a trip to replace the damn box & put the backed up info on the new one.

Sorry Stavro. Didn't know.

Stavro Arrgolus:

As mentioned, I sent Wayne the playlist for this even before show 1 was recorded so nothing would get copied when he made show 2. When a playlist is completed, I remove the "request songs for" part of the thread title (though as seen below, I forget sometimes).

Doing this left Wayne & Dave to make a show & podcast with new songs for the year while I stuck to the classics. Show 1 became for craziness/vampiric shenanigans & show 3 became less about anarchistic tomfoolery & just relentlessly nailed you with the classics. Some people want to hear the familiar more.

My Halloween III playlist was etched in stone last week, but Wayne or Dave can play requests on this thread if they see them.

Just a side note. I'm going to continue to add anime OSTs (they're technically classified as novelty, so they fit the site's profile) so if you need bgm, you'll have even more options. I tend to lean toward Iyashikei with these. These seem to fit shows best. Even the new Halloween shows have them (from Gakkou Gurashi). Some even fit the Xmas shows.

At least someone can identify with the new shows.

A few years ago, Emi had this whole Warcraft thing going on with her shows. Now we're doing a bit of Skyrim. It occurred to me that Sheogorath is a lot like Viscount Vyslo. Both have the 'jovial psychotic maniac' personality thing going on. Count Aarhus is too proper & Tyro is too serious - well, he's only 51, after all. He'll loosen up in a few decades...everyone does.

Funny you selected the theme title. In high school biology 2 class, for a class project / semester finals we dissected little pigs instead of frogs, and that what group did when the teacher stepped out, they took the dissected intestines and litterally skipped rope with it....

This show's playlist was completed days ago & sent to Wayne along with the show 1 list so nothing in his middle Halloween show would be copied. This Time, I remembered & took down the "Request songs for" part of the thread title when the list was complete.

We knock the disembodied skull out of the park for this last Halloween show every year. Just like Xmas 4. All your old favorites get saved up for it. I know it can be repetitive, but favorites are favorites & they're what the listener wants for holiday music. I try to rearrange or play different ones every year for every final H'ween show.

This is an effective new seasonal font, yes?
