Reviews:
Much has been said recently surrounding this song, but what of the song itself? Maybe it's time for a review.

The tune is a well constructed, hook laden country/pop tune that could almost be described as "Coultonesque". Yes, maybe it's me, but I hear JoCo's style in this little ditty. 30 years ago, no one was imitating Weird Al' Yankovic's style because no one could. JoCo's music is more accessible, apparently. Style or not, this song is listenable in a way that you don't mind hearing it many times and you often want to. It's just so damn catchy. It's also packed with echo effects to compensate for its lack of heavy instrumentation. Overlook the so-called profanity and the gay reference(s) shouldn't even mildly disturb you. This is 2013.
Decent tune, well produced & well executed. My favorite demented tune of 2013 so far.

Facts:
  • Sinéad O'Connor sings backup on this song. (Stavro Arrgolus)
  • The ASCAP site gives writing credit for this song to both John Grant and Birgir Thorarinsson. (Stavro Arrgolus)
  • If you listen, you'll find more than one gay reference in this tune. The line goes, "so go ahead and love me while it's still a crime". This is no doubt a subtle dig at all those places where that sort of thing is still a crime but eventually will no longer be. (Stavro Arrgolus)
  • Original 'Radio Edit' version can be found here. (Stavro Arrgolus)
  • John Grant is the former lead singer of the Denver Alternative band "The Czars" (jmanforever)
  • The radio version of this song says "Greatest Living Creature" and drops the bridge verse with the Gay reference. (jmanforever)
  • Song Lyrics:
You could probably say I'm difficult
    I probably talk too much
    I over-analyze and over-think things
    Yes, it's a nasty crutch

I'm usually only waiting for you to stop talking
    So that I can
Concerning two-way streets, I have to say
That I am not a fan

But I am the greatest m**********r
    That you're ever gonna meet
From the top of my head
Down to the tips of the toes on my feet

So go ahead and love me while it's still a crime
And don't forget you could be laughing
65 percent more of the time
    You could be laughing
65 percent more of the time

Half of the time I think I'm in some movie
I play the underdog of course
I wonder who they'll get to play me, maybe
They could dig up Richard Burton's corpse

I am not who you think I am
I am quite angry which I barely can conceal
You think I hate myself; it's you I hate
Because you have the nerve to make me feel

But I am the greatest m**********r
    That you're ever gonna meet
From the top of my head
Down to the tips of the toes on my feet

So go ahead and love me while it's still a crime
And don't forget you could be laughing
65 percent more of the time
    You could be laughing
65 percent more of the time

(Bridge - Not included in Radio Edit)
    I should've practiced my scales
I should not be attracted to males
But you said that I should learn to love myself
Make up your mind, Dr. Frankenstein

But I am the greatest m**********r
    That you're ever gonna meet
From the top of my head
Down to the tips of the toes on my feet

So go ahead and love me while it's still a crime
And don't forget you could be laughing
65 percent more of the time
    You could be laughing
63 percent more of the time
    You could be laughing
25 percent more of the time
