  • Song Lyrics:
    There were parodists before
    Who recorded just like I
    But now I've been stifled
    Still I will not cry
    My site they came after
    Said I can stick around
But I'd have to pay them
    Can't afford to pay them

    Yes now ASCAP
    Wants my money
But I am running short on rent. . .
    Wallet's full of lent

They don't care 'bout my words
or that my stuff's not sold
    I must have their license
That's what I have been told
Don't want to go to court,
    don't have cash around
Hope they don't back charge me
I hope they just leave me

    'Cause they're ASCAP
    Have so much power
Why'd they single me out here
My site was so small here

    Ooh ooh

    I'm hobby-less again
    My fun's run out
    No fun, fun fun fuuuuuuuuuun
    Dooooooooooonnnnnnnne

It's what had made me happy
    My site got too big
    I thought my stuff's crappy
    Guess it's not that crappy

    But I won't weep
    I won't cry no
The day the music died is here!
    McLean was right dear
    McLean was right dear

I passed this song around to Dementia Radio's live Monday DJs as well, and asked them to play it on each of their shows.

Hopefully it airs on all 3 of tonight's shows.

This is the not-so-long awaited parodic response to what ASCAP wants. They actually don't have a problem with me performing parodies or allowing parodies on my site, what they want is royalties to allow them on my site, and while $340 doesn't sound like a lot--it is when you are struggling in the construction industry for work and can't find work. It's also a lot for a non-profit artist who is trying to expose more people to the wonderful comedic world of parody. I was going to sell this song on this site, however, I decided for now that the song itself is not inciteful, because it doesn't name trash or say anything that I think ASCAP would disagree with. . .but selling it would probably make it to where something can't be worked out and right now I'm really trying to work things out. I will begin selling chipmunk versions of my biggest hits here possibly as soon as next week, over 80% of the profits for that will go towards bringing back a newer, stronger badave that is a safe haven for parody and comedy alike, I don't agree with ASCAP on the issue, but for personal reasons don't have the ability--even if money wasn't the big issue--to go to court. For me this is truly a hobby. . .not a profession or a dream job, but a hobby. Anyone who wants to help badave.com become a safe haven for playing comedy and parody music can donate over at www.badave.com/donate.php and I will send a copy of this song to the email address of any donation of any amount that is large enough to cover the transaction fees. Additionally those who wish to help me restore badave.com, keep an eye out for the new mp3 store stuff in the coming days, I will be releasing no less than 8 of my biggest hits as chipmunk medleys which will help me raise money, and help Wayne at the same time.

Viva Badave! Vote for this song for the DT Top 20 please, The more exposure the better, I hope you enjoy my not so insiteful, but very heart filled piece about my dealings with this situation. Please note that in addition to restoring badave, the back charge thing is not a joke, I don't know yet if they are going to try and make me come up with money for having posted on my site. . .so I may need donations anyway to head that off. . .all donations will be used towards Badave related expenses--primarily the restoration of the site's sections, and improvements upon them to allow me to become a safe place for parodists everywhere to post their work.
