While we know these songs well, many listeners in Los Angeles were hearing them for the first time in many years.

It wasn't just the songs. It was the experience.

To some the playlist would seem so mundane compared to what Dr. Demento could have played. But to hear him again after (what for many of us is) such a long time is like a trip back to a better time. (But I guess that was the whole idea of the KMET day anyway.) The thing that couldn't be missed was hearing what Dr. Demento had to say about the songs. Hearing his nostalgic memories and stories was what made this show most worthwhile.

Indeed, worthwhile. The narrative, the history, it came together well and hopefully many heard it.
Watching the video, doc was into doing his show, not distracted. In fact the whole day looked like job 1 was getting the show done. Any autographs and chat was probably done outside the studio.
